Youth Sports - Tennis
The Athletic Programs Administration (APA) offers a variety of of Youth Tennis programs led by tennis professionals on during spring, summer, and fall. DPR's primary tennis facility is the Southeaset Tennis and Learning Center located at 701 Mississippi Avenue, SE. The center and its programs are managed by Coach Nicholas Askew.
- Youth Tennis Academy: A new initiative to introduce children and youth across the District to the game of tennis, and create new opportunities for children and youth to be exposed to the game of tennis at a younger age.
- Tiny-Tots: A terrific introduction to tennis for youth, emphasizing fun and success.
- Super-Tots: For youth 4 and 5 years old, includes skill building games, activities and basic stroke production will be covered.
- Junior Beginners: Introduces the forehand, backhand, service and volley. Covers rules, scoring, etiquette, selection of equipment and basic strategy.
- Junior Advanced Beginners: Emphasizes ball control for those with basic skills. Covers fundamentals in great detail, and introduces balance and footwork, overhead, lob, low volleys, service return and strategy in singles and doubles.
- DPR Junior Tennis in the Parks: A multi-cultural outreach tennis program for youth ages 6 to 18 years old which provides professional tennis instruction with the assistance of dedicated volunteers.
- Private Lessons: Private instruction by a certified staff professional is available to players of all ages and skills. Students will follow a customized curriculum created in accordance with the student's goals. Registration is through DPR's Athletic Programs Administration.
